So often I get asked what should I wear to my couple shoot, to my e-shoot, family shoot you name it…
Yes its a difficult decision specially if you are like me, I mostly wear a shirt, jean and tommy tekkies and if i dress up its usually a fancy shirt with jeans and tommy tekkies.
So what should you wear then…
I always give my clients a few tips not telling them what to wear but just a few guidelines to help them make the decision.
- Shoes, I love shoes even though I don’t wear fancy shoes, but needles to say shoes create great dimension, and can be used as props. You can colour code them have a textured pattern or wear a shoe that makes you a bit taller. If you have a special pair that you love, this is the time to take them out and wear them.
2. Shirt, dresses, pants, multiple outfits…. this is too much…. 🙁 Yay or nay on that dress..
This is a really easy question to ask yourself are you a dress girl or a pants kinda person, are you likely to roll on the grass or sit perfectly like a lady at the table…
It comes down to what makes you feel COMFORTABLE and I am bolding it because if you feel uncomfortable you will look uncomfortable and If you feel sexy and happy you will look sexy and happy on the camera. I am not saying you can’t class up your shoot by wearing a dress, you can but make sure it reflects who you are, after all you want the photos to capture the true spirit of the two of you. If you are totally unclear on what to wear, take both outfits the pants and the dress, do half the shoot with the dress and if it works for you keep going, if not change to the pants.
3. Make-up….
I need to do a bit of a rant here!
Please ladies wear make up, NOT A LOT but enough to make your features stand out more. Make-up helps to bring out those gorgeous eyes or stunning cheek bones it helps make you skin look like porcelain and its a great confidence booster. If you don’t know how to apply make-up ask someone you know to help or you can even get in touch with Contour Creations make-up artists that can give you a bit of direction. Check out Pinterest there is a lot of ideas on the internet.
4. Do we need to match.. what about colours, what colour should I wear….
DO NOT MATCH, go for great contrast colours, colours that blend together and stand out. Ladies layer using scarfs and jewellery to give your outfit different textures and dimensions. For the guys they love their jeans and a plain dress shirt can not really go wrong as long as it does not clash with your outfit. For example stick to one wearing a plain shirt and the other a pattern shirt. Its always great to add a splash of colour, it could be your shoes, scarf or jewellery.
What to wear is not always a quick decision and you should spend a bit of time planning it out, have a look online, its a great place to get some ideas that you can incorporate in your shoot. Look at different advertisements on fashion and how they layer their clothes. Most of the engagement shoots happen in the afternoon so spend the day treating yourself doing your hair, doing you make-up and getting dressed to impress.
Ps. have fun this is your couple shoot and you will look back at those photos with fond memories!
